THE Jim McColl and Paul Murray group said they were 'bemused' by the appointment of David Somers as a non-executive director and acting chairman of Rangers International Football Club plc - and their sentiments will be shared by large swathes of the Light Blue legions.
The last men standing at Ibrox - finance director Brian Stockbridge and businessman James Easdale - were always going to look to strengthen their hand following a host of high-profile departures, including chief executive Craig Mather.
But the appointment of Somers will not appease McColl's camp or the Gers supporters who have been demanding answers and boardroom change.
Fans will be wary of anyone brought in now and, with the make-or-break AGM on the horizon, any building work undertaken by the now three-man board could come crumbling down if they don't get the required backing from shareholders.
Somers is determined to continue with the recruitment process, but he and his fellow new arrivals could have a short stay at Ibrox.

The appointment of David Somers will be seen as a step in the right direction by the Rangers board and those fans and shareholders who want the status quo to remain in the aftermath of what is likely to be a fiery AGM next month.
Having seen chief executive Criag Mather and non-executive directors Ian Hart and Bryan Smart step down from the Ibrox top table in recent weeks, the Gers hierarchy - Brian Stockbridge and James Easdale - had to act quickly to bolster their ranks.
With Somers on board, and a new CEO likely in the near future after the post was advertised earlier this month, the Gers boardroom will have a far more stable look to it. Operating with only two directors was a situation that could not have continued for much longer.
Those currently in control are obviously sure that they will still be in position after December 19 and are putting the foundations back in place as they attempt to rebuild the club.
Only time will tell if they are successful, but they are clearly determined to give it their best shot.
