RANGERS fans will snap up season tickets for next season in vast numbers once again this summer – thanks to the Walter Smith factor.

That was the prediction from supporters chief Drew Roberton today as followers of the Ibrox club received their renewal forms.

Over 38,000 people bought season books last year in an amazing show of loyalty to the Glasgow giants after their financial problems. But there were fears many would not renew them due to the off-field turmoil at Rangers and disturbing reports of boardroom unrest.

But Roberton believes the surprise appointment of legendary manager Smith as club chairman will convince many to part with their cash.

He also feels the signing of free agents Cammy Bell, Nicky Clark, Jon Daly, Nicky Law and Arnold Peralta will also persuade fans to buy season tickets.

And he is convinced the emotional personal appeal from manager Ally McCoist in the renewal letters will also help bring money in to the Third Division champions.

Roberton said: "I think Walter becoming chairman and the signings the club have made since the end of the season should be enough to convince fans to renew season tickets.

"Walter becoming chairman especially is important as it will convince supporters that there is at last some stability at the highest level at the club going forward."

He added: "There was a fantastic response from fans to season-ticket sales last season and hopefully the same number will renew.

"Freezing season ticket prices was a good gesture by the club as well.

"I would hope that would encourage fans."

McCoist this week urged fans to help the Ibrox club in their journey back to the top of Scottish football by renewing their tickets.

He wrote: "More than ever we need your continued support.

"We will do everything we can to repay your loyalty, delivering the success this football club and our fans deserve and ultimately regaining our rightful place at the top of Scottish football."
