The Scottish FA's compliance officer has appealed against the ban imposed on Rangers' Steve Simonsen for betting.

Simonsen was banned for two games, one of which was suspended, after admitting betting on 55 matches.

The SFA has now confirmed that its compliance officer has appealed the ban on the basis that it is "unduly lenient".

An appellate tribunal will convene in due course to consider the appeal.

Simonsen was charged last month, with the SFA claiming the 35-year-old Englishman placed 18 bets last season and another 37 this term.

SFA Disciplinary Rule 33 prohibits players, coaches, club officials and referees in Scotland from betting on football anywhere in the world.
