MARK WARBURTON is confident he can handle the pressure of being Rangers manager as he attempts to guide the club back to the top of Scottish football.

The Londoner has agreed a three year deal at Ibrox and is joined by Light Blues legend David Weir after winning the race to become the new Gers gaffer.

The Warburton and Weir combination was the preferred choice for many Rangers fans this summer but now the hard work has begun ahead of the new Championship campaign.

And the former Brentford boss reckons a positive approach will help him meet the demands of an expectant Ibrox crowd.

He said: "At Brentford, we had a smaller budget compared to other clubs in the Championship. It was a bottom six budget. There are some very big clubs in that division, some of them receiving parachute payments from the Premier League.

"We were well supported by the board there and hopefully we rewarded them as well.

"This is obviously a leap for us. Look around you here - this is my first time at Ibrox and I'm not going to disrespect the size of the task ahead of us.

"This is a new environment for me. But David Weir is a fantastic man to have alongside me and I'll pick his brains every single day.

"You've got to relish this. You can crumble under it and fear it - or you can absolutely embrace it. That's what I intend to do.

Warburton arrives at Ibrox with only a couple of years experience in management but boasting an impressive track record after his remarkable exploits at Griffin Park.

The former City trader took the Bees from League One to within touching distance of the Premiership and has spoken to people in the game to get an idea of what awaits at Ibrox.

He said: "It would be inappropriate to mention names. I've got some good contacts at various clubs, not just in Britain but around Europe.

"I'd be lying if I told you I'm prepared for the goldfish bowl, as everyone is calling it. But my job is to seek good advice.

"You can't ask too many people, you speak to two or three people you respect and trust. In the end, it's your decision."

While Warburton is something of an unknown quantity to many Gers fans, the Light Blue legions have total faith in his right hand man Weir.

The 45-year-old enjoyed a glittering Gers career and is well placed to offer words of wisdom to his boss as they get down to work at Ibrox.

Warburton said: "He told me many things, but one single thing? Recognise the expectation of supporters.

"Be aware of the expectation of where the club needs to be, where it should be. He has drilled that into me."
