Black was charged by the SFA for allegedly breaching gambling rules but McCoist's faith in the former Hearts man paid off as he helped the Gers to their third successive triumph in League One.
Boss McCoist said: "I think he continued from the last few games. There have been a lot of question marks, rightly or wrongly, been put on Ian's performances this season.
"I would cut him a bit of slack for last season. He joined and had a double hernia and, like the rest of the boys, didn't have a pre-season. We all know how important a pre-season is and Blackie has had that. We were confident he would hit the ground running. He is one of these boys that attracts attention for one thing or another."
