A SCOTS-BASED low-cost airline has hired nearly 130 new staff to cope with summer demand.
Flyglobespan has recruited extra cabin crew to work on long-haul flights to America and Canada as part of its expansion plans, as well as flights to Spain.
The additional staff were taken on in preparation for the launch of the budget airline's summer schedule last week.
Airline bosses recruited 93 extra crew for services in and out of Glasgow Airport and another 35 at Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports.
A spokeswoman said: "The new staff have been taken on to work on flyglobespan's increased flying programme for the summer. This includes daily flights from Glasgow to Alicante, Malaga, Palma, Faro, Barcelona and Orlando as well as the start of our Canadian programme which starts in May and includes twice weekly flights to Toronto and twice weekly flights to Calgary/Vancouver direct from Glasgow."
The new starts will board their first planes out of Glasgow from April 21, with chief executive Rick Green commenting: "I am pleased that the popularity of our summer flying programme has lead to a requirement for more staff and allowed us to provide further jobs in Scotland.
"Both core and new routes are performing ahead of budget and for this we are very grateful to our customers who continue to show great loyalty in choosing to fly with a Scottish airline over other low-cost airlines."
Joining the Glasgow team will be Gary Henry, 20, from Garelochhead, Argyll and Bute. He said: "I am so delighted to be joining an exciting and growing airline such as flyglobespan.
"It has always been a dream of mine to work in the aviation industry and flyglobespan have made this possible."
Flyglobespan has also appointed Mark Duguid as its new product director while Mark Hodgkinson becomes the company's operations manager. The low cost airline now employees more than 1300 staff.
