TIME is running out to make nominations
for the Evening Times 2007 Scotswoman
of the Year awards.
Nominations close on Wednesday, with the awards announced at a dinner in the Banqueting Hall in Glasgow City Chambers at the end of this month.
The awards are
sponsored by the
St Enoch Centre and
IT Services firm TSG and, as well as the top
honour, there are
two new categories - Businesswoman of the Year and Sportswoman
of the Year.
Today, we include the names of a few of the extraordinary women who have inspired you with their courage and strength and who make the rest of us stand in awe at their achievements.
They are women with passion and commitment, who think of others rather than themselves.
We have highlighted some of the nominations in the panel below, but here are a few more:
Professor
Margaret Smith, who has just taken up the post of Dean of Nursing and Midwifery at Dundee. She was formerly the director of nursing at Glasgow Royal and the Victoria Infirmary.
Campaigner Josie
Livingston, MBE, says she is someone who is
a perfect example of what a Scotswoman of the Year should be.
Betty Weir, who, along with her friend Jean Reader, has been running the Age Concern Centre in Bourtreehill, Irvine, for 30 years.
The women provide
a lifeline for many elderly, vulnerable and disabled locals and the centre is the hub of the community.
This year, Betty had cancer surgery but, within weeks, she was back at the centre.
Geraldine
Gammell, director
of The Prince's Trust
in Scotland.
She has transformed the trust, making it more responsive to demand, linking it with the
business community and helping 4000 young
people a year get into education, employment and training.
Moira Bradley,
of Greenock, who has
single-handedly raised more than £30,000 for Radio Clyde's Cash for Kids appeal over the
past five years, despite having a heart condition, working full-time and looking after her family.
So who do you think should be nominated? You can send us your nominees through our home page link.
