Stark has got to be in mix for Scots job

He oversaw the 2-1 win over Luxembourg, but he has proved over the years that he is an astute coach, and should certainly come into the reckoning when it comes to deciding who the next boss is going to be.

I know there have been a few names mentioned, but Gordon Strachan and Joe Jordan are the ones who leap out at me.

Both of these men are able coaches and would do a good job for the national team as they try to move things forward.

It was a really disappointing start to the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, so at least whoever comes into now has a bit of time to try and turn things around.

I know Sven-Goran Eriksson has been talked about, but I honestly think it will be one of the three Scots who get the job on a permanent basis. I just don't think that the Swede would be seriously interested in the post of Scotland manager.

And to be perfectly honest, I don't think there are many better candidates than the above trio.

There have been some names raised who ruled themselves out of the running relatively quickly – Alex McLeish and Graeme Souness spring to mind – but I do think that the likes of Strachan, Jordan or Stark would be ideal candidates to take the country forward.

They all have significant experience and know what is required in the job. They also know the pressures that would be involved.

I wouldn't be against a foreign coach coming in to take the post if they were the right man for the job but I do think that you would be hard pressed to find a better option that those who are the current favourites.
