Sven-Goran Eriksson for Scotland?

No thanks!

I was stunned when I read in SportTimes yesterday that the Swedish former England gaffer had applied to the SFA for the job.

As much as I respect Eriksson for the job he did down south, and his work with major clubs like Roma, Sampdoria and Lazio, I don't want another foreign coach to take charge of our national team.

I had quite enough of that when Berti Vogts was Scotland gaffer.

No, I want to see a Scot at the helm, a man who has his heart in the job, who knows what the fans expect and demand and can accept criticism when it comes.

There are some outstanding candidates, too, so there is no need to look at somebody like Sven. For me, it is between Joe Jordan and Gordan Strachan. I wouldn't mind which one of them got it.

I want somebody in the role who has the managerial experience needed and the passion to succeed. Both Joe and Gordan satisfy those requirements.

Billy Stark, who took charge of Scotland in the 2-1 win over Luxembourg on Wednesday evening, is also a contender.

He has vast experience – including of the international game from the Under-21 squad. I am sure he will be the frame.

Bringing in Billy, Gordon or Joe won't cost any money as no compensation will be required. It is down to the SFA now to sit down and determine who they think will be the best man for the job.

Hopefully, it will not be Sven-Goran Eriksson.
