Scott Jamieson may be targeting a strong finish to the European Tour season in this week's DP World Tour Championship, but the Glasgow golfer already has his sights set on the new campaign.

The Cathkin Braes ace is one of six Scots in the limited, 60-man field for the £5m Dubai showpiece which tees-off tomorrow over the Earth course at the Jumeirah Estates.

Jamieson, who squeezed into the big-money bonanza at No.59 on the final order of merit for the second year running, has enjoyed another fine season at the top table.

But the ex-Scottish Boys' Strokeplay champ is not about to rest on his laurels.

Jamieson will travel back to Glasgow after this week's event for six days of rest before heading to South Africa for the start of the new season.

The 28-year-old, who will compete in the Nelson Mandela Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Championship before Christmas, said: "There isn't much of a break these days but it's important for me to get out of the blocks quickly again and keep some of the momentum going.

"Everybody goes back to zero on the Tour again for the start of the new season and if I can get a fast start in the early events then it sets me up nicely."

Jamieson kick-started his 2012 campaign with a share of fifth in the Dubai Desert Classic and he is eager to finish with a flourish on his return to the desert.

The former Scottish amateur No.1 heads into tomorrow's opening round on the back of two missed cuts and his first-round 85 in last week's Hong Kong Open was his worst score on the main Tour.

Jamieson, who was fifth in last month's Perth International and fourth in September's KLM Open, added: "Last week was not the ideal preparation but that's all gone now.

"This has been my second year on the Tour and I feel I have definitely improved as a player. Yes, I finished 59th on the order of merit again but all my stats were better than last year.

"My stroke average, for instance, is half a shot better per round and that makes a big difference over the course of a tournament. I'm feeling more comfortable at this level."

Jamieson is joined in Dubai this week by Glasgow's Marc Warren.
