Liam McVey has warned against the late lapses which have cost high- flying Rob Roy vital points in recent weeks.

The Kirkintilloch outfit await the visit of Clydebank on Saturday and the highly-regarded full-back insists three points are a priority if his third-top-of-the-table side are to keep up their quest for the Super Premier title.

And he's determined to help the Rabs continue their impressive early season run at the expense of the Bankies whom he will forever hold in high regard for giving him a first chance at Senior football all of 12 years ago.

Liam was a starry-eyed 18-year-old in 2000 and played under both Tommy Coyne and Derek Ferguson in line-ups containing high-profile stars like Michael O'Neil , Billy McKinlay and Derek Jackson.

He recalled: "Our Rob Roy goalkeeper Stephen Robertson was also with Clydebank back then and I have a lot of fond memories even though it wasn't the best of periods for the club coming around the time of their demise as a professional entity.

"A lot of their former supporters continued to follow the Bankies when they reformed in the Junior ranks and I'm not in the least bit surprised that Clydebank have risen to be regarded as one of the best West Region sides around.

"I enjoy the banter from those fans whenever our paths have crossed in games and I've no doubt they will make themselves heard on Saturday but hopefully we can pick up the win to put their gas at a peep."

The 30-year-old reckons Rob Roy have to stop handing out late gifts in their league matches.

He said: "We've been guilty of switching off and conceding goals over the closing stages as was the case in drawing away to both Pollok and Auchinleck recently.

"A lot of teams would be satisfied to come away with a point from those difficult venues but we were left gutted on each occasion after playing well enough to take all three points in both games.

"Letting down our guard is becoming a bad habit and it's imperative we now show ourselves capable of shutting up shop from a winning position.

"Hopefully we can do that on Saturday as we cannot afford to lose any more ground in the championship race."

Rabs co-gaffer Jimmy Lindsay has ruled out the possibility of strengthening his playing squad before the weekend clash despite having parted company with a quartet of his Adamslie Park players.

Midfielder Jamie Doyle was offloaded to Shettleston and Darren Miller returned to his former club Ardrossan Winton Rovers, while only last week winger Brian Mackay was sold to Pollok.

And last night, young striker Finlay Frye was allowed to join Glenafton which sets him and erstwhile team-mate Mackay on opposite sides of the fence when the Glens take on Pollok in their Emirates Junior Cup third round match on Saturday.

Jimmy said: "Players not commanding a regular place more often than not want to move on and we as a club will not stand in their way.

"Boosting our playing numbers particularly with Scott Adam ruled out longer term is a must but it's not easy to bring in guys capable of the quality already at the club and who can compete for the jerseys."
