FORMER Rangers midfielder Ian Ferguson is rolling out the welcome mat for Brand Beckham.

Ferguson, currently in charge in Australia with Perth Glory, is part of an audacious bid by the club to get Beckham's signature.

Beckham announced this week that he would be ending his five-year spell with Los Angeles Galaxy after next month's MLS Cup.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has insisted that he still feels as though he has something to offer and Ferguson would like the chance to entice him Down Under.

And the former Ibrox man believes Beckham offers more than just a chance for the marketing men to get to work.

"If you are just bringing a 37-year-old out here for a holiday and to be paraded in front of the crowd when really he's finished, then I'd be against it," said Ferguson.

"But if you've got a player who's still playing at the very top level and doing it week in week out which Beckham is, it's a different story.

"I'm sure there was a lot of negativity surrounding Alessandro Del Piero's move to Sydney, but he's been their best player.

"These are quality players and if they are still playing at the top level and we can bring them in, then I'd say it's a massive tick for the A-League.

"I feel that if we could get Becks here it would be phenomenal for the club and for Perth and it would be a fantastic coup for the A-League.

"He is a player of great quality who takes care of himself and does the right things and the right training."

Meanwhile, Uefa are expected to decide today if Lazio should answer for alleged anti-Semitic chanting as Tottenham's tumultuous trip to Rome took another unwanted twist today.

Uefa fined Lazio £32,500 for their fans monkey chanting at three Spurs players during the reverse fixture in September, and Andre Villas-Boas hopes they move swiftly to establish the facts.

"It will take another investigation," said the manager after the 0-0 Europa League tie, which means they still require a point to qualify.
