Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels suggested fourth official Andrew Dallas may not be ready for the SPL after the 2-1 home loss to St Johnstone.

Shiels was furious following the dismissal of skipper Manuel Pascali, just four minutes into the clash at Rugby Park, for a two-footed challenge on Nigel Hasselbaink.

The Killie boss was then sent to the stands after protesting towards both referee Stevie O'Reilly and Dallas, son of former Scottish referees' chief, Hugh.

Michael Nelson's header seven minutes from time cancelled out Murray Davidson's opener and looked to have earned the hosts a point, but, with two minutes remaining the visitors capitalised on their man advantage as Rowan Vine netted the winner for the Saints.

"It was clear that Manuel got the ball and it went out for our throw-in, but instead he's sent him off," Shiels said.

"I think the referee listened to the young lad, the fourth official and then made the decision.

"We have had him (Dallas) here before and he's easily influenced – maybe the SPL isn't for him at this point as he needs more experience."

Shiels will not change his outspoken approach, despite suggestions that his team are suffering as a result.

"I speak candidly and expose people by telling the truth," he said.

"My nature will not change. Whether this is the right industry for me I don't know – people are telling me not to tell the truth as it will come back to be held against you.

"I don't believe that to be the case. Diplomacy may not be my strong point but you can trust me and my players do.

"However, when it is suggested it is getting my team into trouble, I will strongly deny that."
