Stevie Miller needed just one light training session to realise he had made the right career move in signing back on at Arthurlie for a second time.

The one-time Junior international completed a shock transfer from Irvine Meadow last week.

However, the necessary paperwork formalities were not concluded in time for him to feature in the Barrhead club's 6-1 Emirates Scottish Cup rout of Steelend Vics last Saturday.

Instead, he had to make do with joining in with his team-mates as they went about their warm-up routines with a bemused Dunterlie terracing throng looking on.

The 31-year old midfielder former Pollok and Maryhill ace said: "I had talks with Ashfield and Kilbirnie Ladeside as well as a training stint down at Beith last midweek, but matters moved very quickly once Mark Cameron agreed a deal with Irvine Meadow.

"He first signed me for Arthurlie, and it's probably true to say I would never have left the club if he had stayed in charge, but that's all water under the bridge right now so I didn't hesitate to put pen to paper.

"I'm delighted to be back among so many former team-mates and my only aim is to try and hold down a place in what is a side packed with bags of potential if Saturday's showing against Steelend is anything to go by.

"It feels right to be back at Dunterlie, where the supporters have always gone out of their way to make me feel welcome any time I've returned, which is something that cannot be said about all my former clubs.

"I will always treasure fond memories of my first playing stint at Arthurlie and they have left me wanting plenty more of the same, starting with our game against Shotts Bon Accord this week."

Popular Lie coach Jimmy McQuade said: "We've had our eyes on Becksy for a considerable time, so it's very pleasing to finally have him signed, sealed and delivered.

"He is someone possessing a great work ethic as well as the right attitude for a club like ours, so I've no doubts whatsoever that he'll prove his worth over the coming months, particularly as we are looking like a side that will improve as the season goes on.

"He may have to bide his time for a starting jersey, but Becksy has been around the block enough times to know his chance to impress will come."

Meanwhile, struggling West Region champions Irvine Meadow may regret allowing experienced Miller to depart.

Midfielder Liam McGuinness is likely to be out until mid-February with a broken ankle sustained in their Emirates Cup victory over St Anthony's.
