DARIUSZ DZIEKANOWSKI joined Celtic in July 1989 and was transferred to Bristol City in 1992, but he will always be remembered for his goalscoring exploits in a European tie against Partizan Belgrade at Parkhead...

CRAIG McCARTERS (Foxbar) – Can you please give details of the European tie played at Celtic Park when Dariusz Dziekanowski scored four goals and Celtic still lost?

This was the second leg of a European Cup-Winners' Cup first-round tie played between Celtic and Partizan Belgrade on September 27, 1989.

In perhaps the most dramatic European tie ever played at Parkhead, Celtic actually won the match 5-4, but went out on the away-goal rule.

Already facing a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, Celtic fell further behind in the seventh minute before Dziekanowski equalised to make it 1-1 at half- time. Eighty seconds into the second half, 'Jackie' scored his second to make it 2-1 to Celtic on the night and 3-3 on aggregate.

Partizan scored again in the 51st minute, Dziekanowski once more in the 56th minute, Partizan again in the 61st minute, and then Andy Walker in 65 minutes!

With the aggregate score now level at 5-5, Celtic knew they had to score again to avoid losing on the away goal rule.

A fourth Dziekanowski goal in the 81st minute put the Bhoys in dreamland before Partizan scored an 88th-minute leveller to break Celtic hearts.

The Celtic side was: Bonner, Grant, Rogan, Aitken, Elliot, Whyte, Galloway, McStay, Dziekanowski, Walker, Miller. Subs: McCahill, Andrews, Fulton, Burns, Coyne.

R. DAVIS (Glasgow) – I know Willie Telfer was capped once for Scotland whilet with St Mirren. Can you please tell me if he was capped when he went to Rangers?

On November 4, 1953, Telfer played for Scotland against Wales at Hampden in a 3-3 draw.

In the Wales game he was criticised for not tackling John Charles as he ran through to equalise with two minutes to go.

He was never capped again and moved to Rangers in 1957.

JOHN ANDERSON (Irvine) – Ex-Pollok and Scotland Junior striker Bryan Dingwall made his Senior debut in Dingwall for Clyde v Ross County on July 17, 2010. Can you give details of his short Clyde career, and is he still playing somewhere?

Bryan Dingwall started seven games for Clyde, once in the Challenge Cup and six Third Division league games. He also came on as a substitute in a further three league matches.

In that time he scored one goal for Clyde. His last game was a 3-2 defeat to Arbroath on October 16, 2010.

He decided, however, that Senior football was not for him and, by mutual consent, he left Clyde on October 22 and re-signed for Pollok Juniors on October 29.

He then moved on to Bellshill Athletic on March 4, 2011, and stayed with them until July 29. On August 6, 2011, he signed for amateur club Colville Park, where he is still playing.

Bryan also has the distinction of playing as an internationalist at both Junior and Amateur levels.
