ALEX MORRISON is desperately trying to get Jon Slowey a place on the undercard of Ricky Burns WBO lightweight title defence against Jose Ocampo at the London ExCel on Saturday week.

The city promoter was forced to pull the plug on his proposed Gorbals show set for this Saturday.

And that has meant that Slowey's top-of-the-bill bid to claim his first professional title has had to be put on ice.

However, Morrison is now desperately trying to find Slowey a place on the under card with the vacant International Masters title still up for grabs.

Big Alex said: "I really feel for Jon as he is a Gorbals boy and had sold an awful lot of tickets.

"To be appearing as the top-of-the-bill feature with your first challenge for a professional title in front of your own folk is pretty much as good as it gets and to have that called off is a sore one.

"But I will do everything I can to get Jon a slot down at the ExCel on December 15 and to make sure that the International Masters titles is still up for grabs.

"Jon has worked very hard to get in great shape and we don't want all that hard work going to waste."

The show had originally been scheduled for the Kelvin Hall, but with the original top-of-the-bill encounter between Scott Harrison and John Simpson folding and Stephen Simmons, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, injured it was re-located to the Gorbals Leisure Centre only for more call-offs to finally lead to the cancellation.

The promoter is now set to re-schedule his Gorbals show with a new date in mid-January likely to be forthcoming.

Morrison revealed: "In all my time in promoting this is only the second time I have ever had to cancel a show and really it has been one frustration after another.

"The level of call-offs has been unprecedented and eventually you have to make a call."
