David Templeton has told the Rangers fans he's determined to raise the bar and become an Ibrox goal king.

The 23-year-old winger has recently returned to the side following ankle ligament damage and lasted just over an hour in Saturday's win over Montrose.

But while the club are satisfied at the impact he has made since arriving at the end of the summer transfer window from Hearts, the player is frustrated, insistinghe has plenty more in his locker. He said: "I feel as though I am only playing at about 80 per cent. There is so much more to come from me.

"Since I moved to Rangers I don't feel they've seen the best of me. My aim over the next few weeks is to knuckle down and really work on getting my fitness levels up because I was out for a good while.

"Once I start to get more game time my touch will improve, my awareness will get better and even my instincts in front of goal will get far sharper. Right now I still feel that I've got a bit to go before I could say I'd be satisfied with my performances."

Rangers play again tomorrow evening when they host Annan and Templeton is itching to get another start under his belt as he strives to kick on.

Ally McCoist doesn't have the luxury of resting players like Templeton who are just coming back from injury given the threadbare nature of the squad, but in any case the winger would not welcome being treated with kid gloves.

"Physically I am fine," he said. "I came to Rangers to play every week and to make sure we were successful in moving up the leagues.

"The game against Annan is another one that will attract a big crowd and we want to make sure we get another three points. I want to start and I want to stay in the team."

While the rookies in McCoist's team have caught the eye in recent weeks, Temple-ton hailed an old head for helping him through the difficult early days of his Ibrox career.

"Lee McCulloch is different class," he said. "He gave me a lot of advice when I first came in and then again when I got the injury.

"He is a proper captain in the dressing room, a real leader. As a team you need characters like Lee and Kevin Kyle because they have been around the block a few times and know just what is required at this club."
