TRUST THE COLTS says ALISON McCONNELL
THE players who made the biggest impact against an adventurous Montrose side at the weekend were the ones with the least senior experience.
Barrie McKay made a top contribution when subbed on for David Templeton, while the likes of Robbie Crawford and Lewis McLeod also caught the eye.
With Annan due to arrive at Ibrox tomorrow night, McCoist could do a lot worse than to stick with these kids.
The energy, commitment and hunger of the youngsters should be enough for Rangers, with a sprinkling of more experienced heads, to get the job complete against the part-timers of the Third Division.
Lee McCulloch has been an impressive figurehead for the club this term and the captain will continue to play his part.
But allowing the youth players to press on and make their case makes sense – especially when Rangers consider the bigger picture of where they are and where they want to be.
EXPERIENCE IS KEY says DARRELL KING
IT has to be horses for course when Ally McCoist picks the team selections that he needs to navigate Rangers out of what is a tricky division.
There is no question that he has some talented youngsters at his disposal. Barrie McKay made two goals when he came on at Montrose, and Robie Crawford finished one of those off.
But McCoist knew it would be a tight, tricky surface, and it was a clever move to bring on the speedy McKay when the game was beginning to stretch.
Would the kids have been so effective from the start? That's the balance the Ibrox boss will be aiming to strike, and people must remember that these players are still developing and also take into account that away matches remain far stiffer tests than playing in front of the big crowds on the large Ibrox pitch.
That said, if former SPL hands like David Templeton and Dean Shields don't pick up, it may be hard for McCoist to resist going with his Murray Park battalion.
