STUART McCALL has told his Motherwell stars they must start brightly in Paisley if their glowing away record is to continue.

The Steelmen have now won four on the bounce on the road, notching 13 goals in the process.

Saturday's 3-2 victory at Hibs had McCall's men come from two goals behind to take second spot in the SPL, securing their sixth away triumph this term.

But despite Motherwell extending their unbeaten league run to six games, McCall has no doubt that his men must come flying out the traps on Friday night against St Mirren if that pattern is to continue.

He said: "Our form on the road has been fantastic and to have won four games on the bounce away from home is very pleasing.

"If you look at the places we have been during that run including St Johnstone, Inverness, Dundee United and now Hibernian, then they have all been against form teams.

"But now we face another real test going to St Mirren and we are taking nothing for granted.

"They have come back strongly from a dip of late and we will need to be at our best. The one thing we can't afford to do is start like we did at Easter Road.

"The first half in Edinburgh was as poor as we have been and it was just not acceptable. But what a response after the interval.

"If you look at the players we lost over the summer with the likes of Stephen Craigan, Tim Clancy and Stevie Jennings all leaving, and the way other clubs like Hibs and Aberdeen have strengthened, then for us to be back up to second is fantastic."

The Well boss has no doubt about the importance of striker Jamie Murphy, who has now weighed in with eight goals this term, which has attracted the attention of Sheffield United.

McCall said: "It's an amazing record that Jamie has scored all of his eight goals away from home.

"It is hard to put your finger on that one but when you go to another team's ground they tend to have more of a go and that does open up space for us.

"We changed things after the break at Hibs and moved Jamie in behind Michael Higdon and put Henrik Ojamaa out wide and brought on Bob McHugh.

"We were very positive in our approach and we got our rewards. But that is the way we play our football and it will be the same on Friday.

"Now we are going to St Mirren on the back of a six-game unbeaten run and very much full of self-belief."
