GREGOR Townsend claims his Glasgow Warriors side can still improve – despite their success against Edinburgh at Murrayfield securing the 1872 Cup.

The Warriors picked up the trophy for the fourth year running thanks to a 21-17 triumph over their capital rivals on Saturday.

Having prevailed 23-14 at Scotstoun the Friday before Christmas, the result gave Warriors a 44-31 aggregate.

The weekend success also kept the Glasgow team in fourth spot in the RaboDirect Pro12 table – just two points adrift of second-placed Scarlets.

However, Townsend was disappointed his side failed to collect bonus points in each of their games against Michael Bradley's Edinburgh.

And he will be looking for his players to show a greater ruthlessness as they push for the third successive league win against Treviso at Scotstoun on Friday.

Townsend said: "I was pleased to score three tries against Edinburgh and with the intensity the team displayed throughout the game. However, we can't afford to sit back. There is still a lot that we can improve upon.

"We are by no means the finished article. We have got plenty to work on.

"Playing for the full 80 minutes is certainly something we have to look to do in the remainder of the season.

"We were disappointed we didn't score four tries against Edinburgh.

"The team had ample opportunities to do so and didn't take them.

"I think we also have to work on our discipline.

"At one stage we were 16-3 in front in the game and allowed our opponents to come back into it and push us."
