GREGOR TOWNSEND today vowed there will be no loss in momentum when his side switch from PRO12 action to Heineken Cup duty for the final time this term at Ulster on Friday night.

Having just claimed the first double over Edinburgh in four seasons Warriors made the most of the perfect platform to claim an emphatic 41-7 five-try bonus-point record victory over Treviso at Scotstoun.

That now sends Toony's troops into the final nine-game stretch of the PRO12 very much in position to deliver the top-two berth that would guarantee a home semi-final in the play-offs for the first time.

Glasgow's comprehensive victory also took advantage of the Scarlets' thrashing at leaders Ulster and Townsend has no doubt that this Scotstoun success, played in front of a disappointing crowd of 3605, could be pivotal in the play-off push.

The Warriors head coach said: "It may be a change of competition on Friday night with us going back into the Heineken Cup at Ulster, but we must do everything we can to keep our momentum going.

"Winning is a habit and one we have not been able to get into against Ulster and I think of all the opposition we could have in Europe, they are the side who will focus our minds most on getting a win despite the fact the Heineken is over for us.

"If someone had told me before kick-off we would have run in five tries against a Treviso side who no-one turns over like that, I would have laughed at them. So the level of confidence we can take with us to Ravenhill on Friday is massive.

"But, at the same time, you look at what Ulster did to Scarlets to virtually nail down first place and that shows the extent of the challenge we will face."

Despite having racked up an unbeaten six-game run at one stage this season that set a new domestic high bar, Warriors have all too often failed to deliver in the games that have mattered both in Europe and the PRO12.

As such, the record victory over a Treviso side who are notoriously obdurate at every time of asking emphatically laid that one to rest as Glasgow got it all right on the big night at last.

Now, however, the final quarter of Heineken Group games awaits Townsend's men with a trip to runaway PRO12 leaders Ulster on Friday and a pool section home finale against Northampton looming on Saturday week.

With his men having already lost twice this term to the Ravenhill outfit in Heineken Cup and PRO12 encounters, Townsend is determined to claim a maiden win over European rugby's form team at the third time of asking this term.

The Warriors head coach said: "There has not been a lot between us and Ulster in the first two games with the difference being they took their chances.

"But against Treviso we proved we can be clinical when it matters and that will be vital again on Friday night."
