Vancouver Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi has hinted Kenny Miller's contract with the MLS club could be terminated early – which could pave the way for a return to Rangers.

The 33-year-old's debut season in Canada was hugely underwhelming after joining the club as a 'designated player' in July last year from Cardiff City, scoring just two goals in 13 games.

That is despite earning a whopping $1.25million, making him the highest paid player on the Whitecaps' books.

Lenarduzzi last night described Miller's performance in the 2012 season as "disappointing" and suggested the player's future at the club will depend on his displays in the coming months.

Asked whether the Whitecaps will get a full season from the striker, Lenarduzzi revealed: "It really depends on how well he does."

Miller has been training at Rangers' Murray Park complex during the MLS close-season, prompting Gers captain Lee McCulloch to urge the Ibrox side to swoop for the Scotland international once their transfer embargo is lifted on September 1.

But the Whitecaps hierarchy are hopeful that, after a full pre-season which is due to begin later this month, Miller will justify his lucrative salary in the 2013 campaign.

Lenarduzzi continued: "No-one has spoken to us about a transfer offer for Kenny, so we just carry on as is. He has told our coach, Martin Rennie, that he is looking forward to coming back."
