Flying winger Richie Burke is sure tomorrow's Emirates Scottish Junior Cup clash with Auchinleck Talbot is set to be a true test of Petershill's form this season.

But the Irishman admits he is relishing the prospect of the Beechwood Park clash with Peasy on a 15-game unbeaten run.

The 26-year-old said: "Yes, we lost out in our earlier meeting in the season, but the narrow 1-0 scoreline shows just how little there was to choose between the sides.

"It was the opening league game and I don't believe a lot should be read into it, particularly as we have improved collectively and now have a greater self-belief about ourselves as our performances of late show.

"That said, there's no getting away from the fact we have landed the toughest Emirates Cup draw possible in facing Talbot at their place.

"If we can up the ante and match them then I believe our players are of a quality every bit as good as theirs.

"There's no reason why we should have any fear."

As you might expect from a bricklayer, Burke alluded to the need for his team to put up a wall to keep out their hosts.

He added: "Auchinleck will come roaring at us particularly in the early stages and it's imperative that we try to stop them getting any joy.

"It's a big ask as they have one of the best Junior striking partnerships going in David Gormley and Keir Millican.

"Thankfully, they will be coming up against a defence boasting the lowest goals-against figures in the Super Premier Division.

"The likes of Michael White, Ryan Jordan and Ross McCabe deserve praise, as do midfielders Jordan Murch and Stevie O'Keane.

"It has all the makings of a cracking Emirates spectacle."

Burke's playing career started in Ireland where he progressed to playing a few games for Derry City.

He has only played for two Junior clubs – Rutherglen Glencairn and Petershill since arriving in Scotland.

The midfielder said: "I thoroughly enjoy the cut-and-thrust of the Junior game.

"But as much as I like dribbling past players what is more important is that I do my job for the team tomorrow."

Meanwhile, SJFA chiefs are advising supporters to check the outcomes of a number of early-morning pitch inspections that are taking place around the country.

Association Secretary Tom Johnston revealed: "We are making no contingency plans at this stage other than to ask home teams to make decisions as soon as possible for the benefit of visiting clubs and supporters."

A Super First Division League game has already been subject to a switch of venue after Kilbirnie Ladeside considered the condition of their pitch at Valefield to be unplayable.

They believe that is not likely to change over the next 24 hours so they have arranged to play their opponents Whitletts Vics through at their own Dam Park in Ayr.
