Templeton and his Gers team mates passed up a raft of opportunities up front against minnows Montrose at Ibrox on Saturday.

And they were made to pay for their lack of ruthlessness in the final third late on when David Gray bagged a shock equaliser for the part-timers.

It was not the first time in recent weeks that Ally McCoist's young side has been seriously lacking up front.

They crashed to a shock 1-1 draw with Elgin City at home back at the start of the month and scraped a 1-0 win over Peterhead away last week.

The result was a serious blow to the confidence of the Light Blues stars ahead of their massive showdown with SPL rivals United at Tannadice this weekend.

But Templeton, who claimed his team's first half goal against Montrose, has pledged to do something about it.

The winger, who has bagged 11 goals for both former club Hearts and Rangers in the 2012/13 campaign, intends to sharpen up his play up front.

He admitted: "If I get scoring chances up front then I need to look at taking them a lot more. "I had one against Peterhead up at Balmoor, it was basically a sitter, that I missed. I over-reversed it when I should have tucked it away.

"I have not been scoring as much as I would have liked to. That is the sort of thing that I need to work on.

"This season is actually the most I have ever scored, but I know that I need to keep on improving.

"Hopefully I can do that and score more goals.

"If we pass up the sort of chances that we did against Montrose then I think we will struggle against United.

"We all, myself included, have to be far more clinical."

Meanwhile, Templeton predicted the Rangers players will have put the 1-1 draw with Montrose behind them when they come to face United at Tannadice.

Despite moving 20 points clear at the top of the Third Division table, the Rangers players were booed off by their own fans after the final whistle.

Templeton said: "Obviously it was disappointing dropping points against Montrose, but we have to put that to the back of our minds.

"As soon as you get back out on the training ground you have to focus on the next game you have coming up.

"I am sure the gaffer and the coaches will work us hard in the coming days and make sure that we are ready for the United game when it gets underway on Tannadice."

Lewis Macleod was stretchered off in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Montrose with a knee injury.

Club medical staff will discover the full extent of his knock this week and whether he can play against United on Tayside.

Elsewhere, Chris Hegarty, who left the field near the end on Saturday with cramp in his thighs, will also be examined by club doctors.
