JOE Ledley reckons that Celtic's comfortable 4-1 win over Kilmarnock has answered a lot of critics after their Communities League Cup semi-final flop at the weekend.

Ledley opened the scoring for the Scottish champions in an emphatic success against SPL rivals Killie at Parkhead last night.

It was a far cry from Sunday when Neil Lennon's team crashed to an embarrassing 3-2 defeat against St Mirren at Hampden.

The Welsh midfielder believes the shock result at the weekend was just a blip and he is hopeful the Hoops have put it behind them.

He said: "We wanted to go out there and show we are capable of playing good football for ourselves and for the manager.

"We just had an off day on Sunday.

"And we couldn't afford to dwell on it.

"The boys just had to get on with our game.

"I was happy to get my name on the scoresheet with one from outside the box. We all proved against Kilmarnock that we are capable of scoring goals."

Ledley was astonished his countryman Adam Matthews, who had only scored once for Celtic before last night, netted twice.

He said: "I thought the first one was a bit lucky and I have no idea what he was doing up there for the second.

"Seriously, though, I think the manager wants him to score goals.

"It is good for wing backs to bomb up the park and score goals.

"And he certainly proved he can do that last night."
