Renfrew co-boss Colin Clark reckons visitors Yoker will provide a pointer to his side's recent progress on Saturday.

The Western Park clash is shaping up as massive in terms of the Super First Division promotion race, given the Whe Ho currently sit seventh – one point better off than Renfrew, who have played one game less.

Stringing together six unbeaten league outings has shot the Frew up the table, and Clarky is hoping his side's improvement has not hit the buffers following consecutive postponements against Perthshire and Kello.

He said: "The wintry weather could not have come at a worse time for us. We made a horrible start to our league campaign and picked up just one point from our opening five matches, but the guys then rallied magnificently to take 16 out of a possible 18 points.

"Martin Ferry (assistant manager) and I would argue the only difference has been the discovery of a ruthless streak in front of goal. The players are no more dominant in games now than they were back in August but, unfortunately, we couldn't buy a goal back then.

"Chris Zok has stepped up to the mark in this respect and has taken on the main scoring mantle, but I'm sure he'd be the first to point to the contribution of Alan Kinney alongside him.

"The big man's name has not featured on many scoresheets, but he leads the line superbly and takes the weight off the other forwards.

"Every team from Largs in pole position down to tenth-placed Glencairn can win the title but, equally, they could end up relegated unless points are put on the board.

"Martin and I spoke in our dressing room a while ago and said our target was just to get back in the mix, but that aim has been achieved quicker than we thought possible."

The Frew management duo took in Yoker's 2-0 Emirates Cup defeat by Camelon last weekend and know a tough 90 minutes is in prospect.

Clarky added: "Yoker gave a good account of themselves. John Brogan has them stuffy and difficult to break down."

Further up the table, third-top Kilbirnie will hope new signing Chris Hamilton can spark a victory over second-top Hurlford that will promote the Blasties into pole position for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, Pollok assistant manager Stevie Docherty has left the club just a matter of days before their crunch Emirates Junior Cup fourth-round clash with Beith. No reasons were forthcoming for Docco opting to head for the exit gates.

The former Airdrie mid- fielder said: "I'm sorry to be leaving, but I feel it's time for me to move on. I've loved every minute of my time at Pollok and it goes without saying that I wish them every success in the months and years to come."

Manager John Richardson was disappointed over his No.2's decision, saying: "Docco played a massive part in the turnaround of this club's fortunes and I'm sorry he has decided to leave, but he is adamant it is time for him to go.

"I wish him every success for the future and I'd like to thank him on behalf of the players and I for all the time and effort he has put in at Pollok."
