Rob Roy co-boss Jimmy Lindsay hopes a couple of new ingredients will provide the recipe for Emirates Junior Cup success.

The Kirkintilloch outfit head into their fourth-round clash at home to Fife minnows Rosyth on the back of some indifferent form – just two wins in their last five outings – prompting Jimmy and dugout partner Derek Frye to bring in two signings.

Highly-rated striker Jason Crooks was brought on board last weekend from Albion Rovers and the Coatbridge club were also raided for goalkeeper Chris McLuskey who is in line to sign for the Rabs.

Lindsay said: "Everyone has been champing at the bit to play this cup tie for the past two Saturdays.

"But if the game had gone ahead on either of them we would not have been in a position to field a full bench.

"Roddy Hunter would not have played because of a virus so it was clear to Freddie and myself that we had to step up our search for replacements.

"Just beefing up numbers is not difficult as there are plenty of players available out there. But we wanted to bring in guys capable of holding down a place in the team.

"Rob Roy have made huge advancements this season, we are entering February still involved in every competition and it is imperative we gear ourselves up to make sure it stays that way.

"Admittedly the title race looks to be between Auchinleck Talbot and Petershill. However, our target has always been to finish as high up the table as possible and for us that means third place.

"Our supporters will love Jason who is an old-fashioned target man with a great first touch, but he is also a proven goalscorer in his own right.

"He started his career at Rangers and has a CV that also includes spells with Ross County and Elgin City.

"So I don't think anyone will be questioning his pedigree and we are excited at the prospect of him and Iain Diack forming a partnership.

"Bringing in another goalkeeper might bemuse a few people because Stephen Robertson is very consistent and has been one of our top performers all season, but the other keeper on the books is 17-year-old Jordan Brown."

HE ADDED: "We felt the position would be strengthened by having another experienced No.1.

"Jordan will be farmed out to play regularly at Under-19 level which will help his development.

"Hopefully Chris can come in. He is only 25 and has a decent Senior background with over 40 first-team games for Stenhousemuir."

Turning to the Emirates Cup, Lindsay said: "Bookies rate us as strong favourites but we have watched Rosyth, in action and they come across as well organised.

"They boast a few decent individuals such as striker Tam Graham who worked under me at Raith Rovers.

"I cannot imagine they are coming to Adamslie thinking they are no-hopers so we will need to give them every respect.

"The Emirates Cup is reaching the interesting stage with Auchinleck Talbot and Linlithgow Rose rated favourites to win it, and rightly so on current form. But our Rabs players don't fear going up against anyone on their day."

Another Emirates hopeful, Beith, warmed up for their trip through to Newlandsfield to face Pollok with a 4-2 midweek friendly defeat of Neilston.

Striking duo Andy Reid and Kenny McLean netted for the Mighty along with David McGowan and Anton Finnigan, while Darren Christie and Robert Cameron counted for the Farmers Boys.
