RANGERS stars must deliver a win against Queen's Park for Ally McCoist – to take the heat off the Ibrox gaffer.

The Gers have failed to win their last two games against Montrose in the Irn-Bru Third Division at home and Dundee United in the William Hill Scottish Cup away.

And despite being 19 points clear of Glasgow rivals Queen's in the league, former Ibrox favourite Alex Rae is in no doubt of the reaction if there is another slip up tomorrow.

He said: "Nobody knows Rangers and the demands of being at the club more than Ally McCoist and Ian Durrant.

"I have coached and managed clubs and I'm still involved in football now with MK Dons, but I haven't been in the position they are in.

"The pressure is consistently on at Rangers. You have to deliver performances and results every time you take to the park.

"If wins are not forthcoming, no matter what the circumstances, then questions do get asked at Rangers.

"The expectations of the team is still great. There are an awful lot of young kids involved and, while they will be taught a great deal about what it means to play for Rangers, it will be a steep learning curve and they will take time to develop.

"I think the club had hoped to do well in the cup competitions, but United are a good team of professionals and good kids. It should be a benchmark of where Rangers are."

Rae, though, knows the Light Blues will be desperate to put their disappointing 3-0 defeat to United behind them.

And he believes the notoriously hard-to-please Gers supporters should appreciate the circumstances McCoist is working in as he tries to rebuild the club from bottom to top.

He said: "I am sure the players are looking forward to getting back to Ibrox.

"I would expect Rangers to get back to winning ways after a few weeks without a victory.

"You have to look at the big picture. They are waltzing away with the league. Getting back up the divisions is going to be the party line for some time and rightly so.

"I have been to three or four games this season and actually think, despite some of their results last month, that their form has improved greatly in the league.

"I am sure Rangers will waltz away with the league this season and next.

"However, it is going to take them a hell of a long time to get back to where they want to be."
