CRAIG GORDON hopes he can take his first steps into coaching at Dumbarton after admitting his playing career could be over.

The former Scotland keeper was released by English Premiership side Sunderland last summer following an injury-plagued spell that kept him out of the game for several months.

He was on the Sons' bench as part of the backroom staff on Saturday as Ian Murray's side kept up their superb recent run of form with a 3-2 win over Livingston.

Gordon will travel with the Sons second string when they face Queen of the South tomorrow night and the former £9million man is preparing for life after he hangs up his gloves.

He said: "It's very unlikely I will be playing again this season. In fact, I'm not sure if I'll play again. So I'm looking into coaching as I want to remain in the game.

"I'm not ruling out playing again, but I need to get things in place if the news is not good in that respect.

"I spoke to Ian when we were both together at a TV studio a few weeks ago and we discussed coming in to help out.

"We agreed last week for me to start things at Livingston and it may become a regular thing.

"I enjoyed the game and viewing it from a coaches point of view was fascinating.

"I was impressed with how Ian and Jack go about things."

Craig will travel with Sons reserve team to Palmerston tomorrow night and it's a game that manager Murray hopes to take part in.

The gaffer explained: "We have reserve league fixtures to play against Raith Rovers and Queen of the South. We hope to get the Queens game out of the way midweek and I intend to play."
