ALLY McCOIST admits Rangers have set the benchmark for their performances for the rest of the campaign after turning on the style to see off Queen's Park.

The Gers produced one of their best showings of the season as they eased to 4-0 derby victory courtesy of an Andy Little double and strikes from Ian Black and Dean Shiels.

McCoist has seen his side often flatter to deceive in the Irn-Bru Third Division but the Ibrox boss is keen to keep their standards high between now and May.

He said: "The Motherwell performance was perhaps our best performance [of the season] but the second-half performance [on Saturday] I was delighted with. It is up there.

"In an ideal world that [continuing that form] would be the case, it really would.

"The boys were certainly a lot brighter and it was encouraging because it was really important that we started the second half well and didn't feel sorry for ourselves after the first half when we could, and probably should, have been in front.

"It was the important thing. You know what it is like at Ibrox, when things don't go your way you can get a bit nervy and the crowd can sense an atmosphere but we didn't allow that at all in the second half.

"That level of performance, in an ideal world, I would readily accept between now and the end of the season."

Victory over their Glasgow counterparts on Saturday saw the Gers stretch their lead at the top of the Third Division to a massive 22 points.

It came just a week after they crashed out of the William Hill Scottish Cup to Dundee United and left them with only the league title to fight for this season.

It is a matter of when, not if, they get their hands on the silverware but goal hero and man of the match Black insists the Light Blues won't take their foot off the gas.

He said: "There are a lot of guys in there who have not won a title yet and anything you win is big for a player so motivation doesn't come in to it.

"[On Saturday] we knew that we would continue to get chances and that one of them would go in so there was no panic.

"The boys worked hard and we got the goal and kicked on from there. The second half is up there with the best we've played.

"We knocked the ball about well. The second goal especially was a really good team goal and there is a bit of confidence now, especially after last week."
