Juventus today arrived in Glasgow for their Champions League last-16 tie with Celtic – and told the Hoops support: We can handle your "lion's den".

Pavel Nedved, a director at the Italian club, spoke out on the matter to state that he believes the team will win at Parkhead, 12 years after his Juve side failed to do exactly that.

The Czech Republic legend was part of the Bianconeri side that lost a 4-3 Halloween thriller at Celtic Park in 2001, with goals from Joos Valgaeren, Henrik Larsson and a special brace from Chris Sutton cancelling out a David Trezeguet double and an Alessandro Del Piero strike to seal victory for the Hoops.

But Nedved is confident that head coach Antonio Conte's men have what it takes to do what they could not – handle the daunting atmosphere that awaits them in Scotland.

He said: "I'm fully aware of the atmosphere that awaits us in Glasgow because I've experienced it first hand.

"We'll be stepping into a lion's den and I don't think the team will need geeing up. We'll have to tough it out, but we have shown that we're ready."

Juve warmed up for the European crunch tie by brushing Fiorentina aside with goals from Mirko Vucinic and Alessandro Matri, a result that sent the Italian champions five points clear at the top of Serie A.

Nedved added: "We are very satisfied with how the team approached the match. Fiorentina play great football, they have a capable coach and a dangerous team.

"In January we had a slight dip in form but you can't be at the top of your game over the course of a whole season. Now we're in form and ready for Europe."
