Motherwell's Keith Lasley is ready to suffer on the sidelines after admitting frustration led to the red card which earned him a two-game ban.

Both the captain and Motherwell kid Fraser Kerr were sent off for lunges on Kilmarnock's James Dayton last weekend and Lasley knows that it will be difficult to stomach sitting out two SPL matches.

The veteran midfielder has apologised for letting himself and his team-mates down and is disappointed that he lost his discipline.

"It was just pure frustration, to be honest," said Lasley. "I felt as though we should have won the game and I still don't know how we ended up on the end of that scoreline (a 2-0 defeat).

"But it was a silly thing to do and I regretted it right away.

"The hardest part now is that I've got two games to sit out of and, every player will tell you, it's hellish watching when you know you should be out there playing.

"I was disappointed in myself. I feel as though I've curtailed aspects of my game and my disciplinary record has definitely got better.

"I've had time to stew on it. I've held my hand up but now I need to put it behind me and try and just keep my head down."

Lasley will miss Saturday's fixture against Inverness at Fir Park and also Tuesday's game against Jackie McNamara's resurgent Dundee United.

Both could be pivotal matches in the fight for second place and Lasley's influence in the middle of the park will be missed.

"They are important games and I do feel as though I would have had something to contribute," he said. "But it cannot be changed. The only positive is that we have two games in quick succession which means that the suspension is relatively short.

"But there is nothing worse than training all week knowing that you don't have a part to play in the game – and a big game at that.

"I'll be at both games offering my support to the lads and I believe that we are good enough to come away from both of them in a strong position.

"We were desperately disappointed with the way things went at Rugby Park, but it was just one of those days.

"There really wasn't all that much wrong with the performance and if we can keep going like that then I'm sure we won't be too far away this season."

Lasley is expected to return against Ross County next weekend and he already counting down the days.

"I am not the best spectator in the world," he said. "I just need to get on with it and hopefully I can get back into it."
