EFE Ambrose has been magnificent for Celtic since his disappointing display against Juventus in the Champions League.

I think the fact he was culpable for two of the goals the Italians scored in their 3-0 win has been responsible for his form.

The Nigerian scored the all-important opening goal in the 6-2 win over Dundee United at Parkhead at the weekend.

And he netted a well-taken effort in the 1-1 draw against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Tuesday evening.

Both goals were probably more difficult to convert than the chance he passed up against Juve earlier this month.

The defender has displayed enormous strength of character to bounce back from adversity in such a manner. It says a great deal for him.

As I have said, it was a gamble by manager Neil Lennon to play him in the first leg of the last 16 showdown against Juventus given he has just returned to the country.

Ambrose had just helped his country win the African Cup of Nations and, while he declared himself fit, it was a risk fielding him in such a game.

But that is in the past. He has more than atoned for his lapses in that game.

I think, too, he has been helped by the huge support and sympathy he has been shown by the Celtic fans. They deserve considerable credit for rallying around him.
