Tam McDonald admits he cannot wait to get down to the business of restoring Shotts Bon Accord as one of Junior football's elite clubs.

His appointment to the hotseat on Tuesday night has raised a few eyebrows, particularly at his former club Lanark United where he has been agreeing new contracts with his Moor Park players.

But now the gaffer, nicknamed Rambo in his own playing days, has switched tack completely as he and backroom team John Gibson and Jack Steel focus on the comings and goings at Hannah Park.

Already a number of Shotts stars are thought to be in demand with Senior interest shown in midfielder Colin Williamson while striker Alan McKenzie is believed to be on the signing radar of Auchinleck Talbot and Pollok, who have also been linked with Mark Sideserf and goalkeeper Johnny Murdoch.

McDonald said: "Immediately after being told the job was mine on Tuesday, I had to make the hardest phone call ever in letting Lanark match secretary Tam Anderson know I was going elsewhere.

"He and I have enjoyed a great working relationship over the past four seasons and in my previous spell with Lanark.

"It's ironic Tony McInally took over from myself at Moor Park all those years ago and here I am now taking over from him.

"A number of players he took with him to Shotts – Tam Hanlon, Paul Burns and Craig Miles – are former signings of mine as indeed is big Chris Walker. So I'm looking forward to seeing their faces again.

"Just when that will be is a bit of a headache as the players are just about to head away for an end-of-season jaunt to Liverpool and are only coming back when my own holiday commitments kick in.

"It's only a year ago that most of the current squad were Scottish Cup winners so I'd love to work with them.

"If we do have to make wholesale changes then so be it, however, this is a massive club and I'd like to think quality players will want to come and play here."

Yet another newly-installed boss, Stewart Maxwell of Rob Roy, has begun his clear out at Adamslie Park with Jordan Smith, Kevin Bradley, Jason Crooks and Roddy Hunter all exiting.

Maxi has not offered new deals to the established quartet and he has further revealed that goalkeeper Stephen Robertson will also leave.

The Rabs gaffer said: "We've not fallen out with the guys but they are not part of our future plans so it was best to let them move on.

"I'm pretty sure players of their quality will be quickly fixed up with other clubs."

Meanwhile, former Motherwell goalkeeper Jon Connolly, who was linked with a step up to Dundee during the summer months, is reputed to have signed on the dotted line for newly-promoted Super First Division side Kilwinning Rangers.
