HENRIK OJAMAA was today at the centre of a signing struggle by fierce Polish rivals.

The Motherwell striker was last night reported to be on the verge of penning a three-year deal with Polish champions Legia Warsaw after Ojamaa passed a medical in Warsaw, with an initial fee believed to be in excess of £300,000.

However, rival Polish side Lech Poznan, who had failed with more than one attempt to sign the 22-year-old already, have made a late move to try and hijack the deal and convince Ojamaa to turn down the switch to the Polish capital.

Ojamaa was present at Lech Poznan's final game of the Ekstraklasa season, but the Polish runners-up failed to meet Motherwell's valuation of the Estonian internationalist.

But now, despite agreement having been reached between Well and Warsaw, it was reported that Lech had made a third attempt. Although, the Estonian could be a Legia player by close of play today if Lech's latest bid fails.

Meanwhile, St Mirren have dismissed rumours they are ready to swoop for former Hearts defender Danny Grainger – but Saints are working on deals for at least five players.

Reports yesterday suggested Grainger – released by Tynecastle boss Gary Locke last week as he strives to slash his wage bill – had attracted the interest of the Paisley club's boss Danny Lennon.

But the Scottish Communities League Cup winners have distanced themselves from a move, with chief executive Brian Caldwell insisting the player was "not on our radar".

He said: "We understand he's going south and will be training with Sheffield United.

"Even if that doesn't work out, I think he wants to give England a go so he's not our radar right now."

However, Caldwell says the club are keen to bring in two goalkeepers, a left-back, left-sided midfielder and another striker this summer.
