WILLIE LIMOND hopes his 12-round Commonwealth title win over Mitch Prince could put him in the frame for a European title shot.

The 34-year-old had a unanimous points win against Prince at Bellahouston Centre.

But Limond, who had looked on course for an early night's work when he dropped Prince in the opening round, has sustained a broken right hand and two burst ear drums.

While the Glaswegian will now take a break, Limond has warned Aberdeen's Lee McAllister, the former champion and his expected next challenger, he may prefer to go for a European triumph when he returns to action.

Limond is ranked No.6 by the European Boxing Union.

After Italian Michele di Rocco beat Englishman Lenny Daws on Saturday to win the vacant belt, Limond hopes he may be in line for Euro glory in the Autumn.

He said: "I have a European ranking of six and, hopefully, the victory over Prince may move that up a notch.

"I have a few options, a defence against McAllister being one, but I am going to sit down with manager Tommy Gilmour and see what is the best option.

"Di Rocco beat Daws and no doubt he will be making a defence of the belt in two or three months. That would be a good timescale for me. The bottom line is that I am 34 and I don't have time to hang about."

But first Limond will have to let the scars of battle heal.

Both men were more than worthy of the standing ovation they obtained at the end of a domestic classic.

Meanwhile, St Andrew's Club supremo Tommy Gilmour has confirmed that new signing from Dundee, Ronnie Clark, will be making his club debut on the top-of-the-bill bout against Dougie Curran tonight at the Radison.
