Derek replied: "Yes. Ronaldo has been amazing for both Real Madrid and Portugal. This recognition is long overdue. His goal return is sensational. He is also very rarely injured.
"Of course, he is unfortunate in that he has been playing at the same time as Lionel Messi. I am sure, too, we will see a reaction from the Barcelona ace because he will be desperate to win back the award."
