STEVE SIMONSEN insists the Rangers squad won't let the latest round of cost-cutting measures affect their SPFL League One title charge.

New Light Blues chief executive Graham Wallace is conducting an extensive overview of the books at Ibrox in a bid to save money and stem cashflow.

A 15% pay cut for Ally McCoist's players was one of the plans on the table but that was thrown out by the squad last week.

Rangers played their first match since the club's money woes came to the fore once again as they beat Forfar 2-0 on Monday night and keeper Simonsen is confident the off-field drama won't affect performances.

He said: "The team is solely focused on getting results on the pitch and we showed that at Forfar.

"What goes on in the board room, outside of it or anywhere else in the club has nothing to do with us.

"We are paid to go out there and perform and to get this football club back to where it belongs, Monday night was another step towards it. I can only comment on what happens on the football pitch.

"We all hear and read what goes on elsewhere but the lads, management team and myself are all focused on winning matches for this football club.

"From the players' point of view, there isn't really much to say."

The latest Ibrox cash crisis comes as McCoist's squad storm ahead in the title race.

The champions are well on course to clinch their second straight title and Simonsen insists it is a happy dressing room despite more boardroom unrest.

He said: "The spirit is fantastic. At the end of the day, we are top of the league, 20 points clear, and the club are in a buoyant mood.

"I think we showed that against Forfar who gave us a difficult game.

"We knew what it was like to go there because Forfar are a very strong and physical side, but I think we more than matched them in those departments and after we started to win our tackles we scored from a set-play and then a terrific second goal from David Templeton."
