RANGERS are awaiting the results of an X-ray on Ian Black's injured foot to discover how long the midfielder will be out of action.

Black was crocked during the League One champions' win over Brechin on Sunday and was still on crutches yesterday as the Light Blues prepare for Saturday's trip to Arbroath.

Ally McCoist's side take on Raith Rovers in the Ramsdens Cup final next weekend before facing Dundee United in the Scottish Cup, and the news is mixed for the Ibrox boss after Black and Nicky Law were added to his injury list.

McCoist said: "He is certainly feeling better and you know what he's like, he's a wee warrior and just wants to be fit and wants to play and train.

"So when you've got someone like that you've always got a chance. He's in there [yesterday] morning telling myself and Kenny McDowall it's miles better, but we'll wait until we see the X-ray and hopefully that should be fine.

"We'll obviously watch his progression towards playing and training again but I would have to say he would be doubtful, very doubtful, to play this weekend. Nicky Law is better. He had a back spasm when he made a forward run so we took him off.

"He hasn't been training but he's in a better place and Steve the physio is happier with him.

"In terms of David Templeton and Andy Little, we're monitoring them but they look as though they will be more longer-term, with Andy's thigh strain and Temps' ankle."

Rangers head to Gayfield this weekend aiming to take another step closer to an unbeaten third-tier campaign.

And McCoist has confirmed midfielder Kyle Hutton will return to his squad after missing the 2-1 win over the Hedgemen. He said: "We just decided to give him a complete rest at the weekend because he came in and did well against Albion Rovers.

"We're delighted for Kyle and he'll come back into our thoughts for Arbroath."

Meanwhile, new Ibrox kid Ryan Finnie was injured on his Light Blues debut in an Under-20 clash with Hibs yesterday.

The right-back has agreed a short-term deal, but didn't last 45 minutes as Gordon Durie's side moved top of the table with a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

"Ryan has been with us for a few weeks now and I thought he did well before he hurt himself," Durie told rangers.co.uk

"He's more of a right-back than a midfielder and he was a wee bit unfortunate to get an injury, but he'll be a help to us in the eight games we have left."

Meanwhile, Rangers have made a limited number of tickets available for their trip to Arbroath.

McCoist's side make their final journey of the season to Gayfield on Saturday as they look to maintain their unbeaten run.

Briefs are available to season ticket holders priced £15 for adults and £10 for concessions and juveniles by emailing ccardmandate@rangers.co.uk
