THE Easdale brothers have re-affirmed their commitment to Rangers after insisting they are not in the running to buy local club Morton.

Cappielow chairman Douglas Rae revealed in an exclusive interview with SportTimes this week that he would be interested in bringing the Greenock businessmen into the club.

The 82-year-old has been at the helm since buying Ton from Hugh Scott in 2001, but is prepared to sell his boyhood heroes should the right offer come along. That bid won't come from the Easdales, however, with the McGill's bus duo instead focusing their attentions at Ibrox where they are both directors and shareholders.

Sandy Easdale said: "James and I wish Douglas every success in securing the right buyer for his club we know he dearly loves. As for us, we are completely focused on Rangers and the job we have there."

The Easdales have become key figures at Rangers in recent months as they have grown their stakes in the League One champions and taken up respective seats on the plc and football boards at Ibrox.

But Rae had cast doubt over their long-term position at the club this week in a wide-ranging interview as he opened the door for the brothers to join him at Cappielow.

The chairman told SportTimes: "It had been my intention to talk with them. I am friendly with them and when they are down they always sit with us. I would be happy to have one of them, at least.

"I am quite sure that I could get one, if not the two of them, if the Rangers thing fell through. But I don't see them moving from Rangers to Morton unless things don't go the way they want them."

Despite holding high-profile positions at Ibrox, the Easdales are still regular visitors to Cappielow.

McGill's are one of the Ton's major sponsors and the pair stepped in to aid their First Division title challenge last year by helping financially in the signing of striker Colin McMenamin.

A takeover bid in Greenock is not on their agenda, but Sandy insists they will continue to support their local side, who will miss out on two money-spinning ties with Ally McCoist's side next term as they get set to drop out of the Championship.

He said: "We would envisage that our local businesses and their respective management teams would continue to take up sponsorship opportunities offered to them by Morton.

"We believe it is important that local businesses give something back to the local community."
