CALUM GALLAGHER thinks the Ibrox management will have a selection headache on their hands between now and the end of the season.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist is eager to give some of his Murray Park kids a chance to shine in the first team over the remaining four SPFL League One fixtures.

But with Gordon Durie's side bidding for an Under-20 league and cup double, McCoist's selection decisions could have a big impact on the Ibrox second string.

Gallagher has really impressed when handed first team chances in recent weeks and dropped back down a level to hit a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Partick Thistle on Wednesday night that keeps the Light Blues in the hunt for title glory.

The 19-year-old said: "A few of the boys are in contention for the first team but it's going to be a difficult decision for the backroom staff dealing with that and the youth side.

"They will need to figure out where we are all going to be involved and in what matches. They need to work out what is most important.

"The boys are looking to break into the first team but we are still chasing the league and the SFA Youth Cup as well.

"At the same time, we have got a deep squad and I'm sure any number of boys could come off the bench and take a jersey in place of someone who might go into the first team.

"All of that is something which is out of our hands though and we'll just need to concentrate on our football."

Durie's men are battling it out with Celtic and Hibs for the league title and will face Hearts in the Youth Cup final as they bid for a silverware-laden end to the season.

Gallagher's treble against the Jags took him to within one goal of top scorer Danny Stoney while Dylan Dykes, who completed the rout of the Firhill side, is just one strike further back.

And the forward hopes there are more goals to come in the closing weeks of the campaign.

"We had not spoken about it but now the games are counting down it becomes a bit more of a contest," Gallagher said.

"I will maybe have to exert a bit of senior authority and pull Dykesy off the penalties for a while!

"You are scoring for the team and it doesn't matter who is putting them away when it's as tight as it is in this league.

"That said, I wouldn't mind being the one who finishes as top scorer so hopefully it goes my way."
