THE news that Celtic have been linked with Marc Janko, the Austria skipper, is something I welcome for a number of reasons.

Most importantly of all is that Janko is a player with an excellent pedigree that has seen him play at the top level in Austria, Holland, Portugal and Turkey, and also average almost a goal in every two games for his country.

He is available on a free transfer and Celtic may have to tickle their wage structure to get him, but Janko is also an attacking player who is known well to Neil Lennon from the club's previous attempts to sign him.

The Austrian would provide a great level of experience up top and offer Celtic something different going forward.

In short, he is exactly the right type of player for the club to be linked with.
