THE association between Rangers and Stoke City stretches back nearly 80 years.

Rangers toast the health of the reigning monarch by drinking from the Loving Cup given to them by Stoke in 1937 in the first home game of the New Year.

The relationship looks set to blossom further with the annual charity cycle that left Ibrox for the Britannia Stadium yesterday.

I helped Rangers beat Stoke in a charity golf event along with Gordon Dalziel, Andy Goram and supporter Karl Menzies last week.

This photograph shows Andy, Gordon and I being presented with the Riders Cup by Stoke and England legend Gordon Banks.

Friendships like the one with Stoke are so important to Rangers.
