VIRGIL van Dijk has revealed he still has ambitions he wants to realise as a player at Scottish champions Celtic.

Van Dijk has been dogged by speculation linking him with a move down to England or further afield in Europe all season.

The Dutch centre back has been absolutely outstanding for Neil Lennon's side during his debut campaign in Scotland.

And back in March agent Henk-Maarten Chin revealed he expected his client to join a Barclays Premier League club this summer.

The 22-year-old, who was shortlisted for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award, and his representatives distanced themselves from those comments afterwards.

But this week the defender was said to be interesting Russian giants Moscow Dynamo and he definitely has some admirers.

Van Dijk, though, is under contract with the Parkhead club until 2017 and it would take a sizeable bid to secure his services.

Celtic are believed to rate the player they landed from Eredivisie club FC Groningen for £2.6million last summer at around £8m.

And the former Netherlands Under-21 international will be content to remain in this country and try and improve on the 2013/14 campaign.

He scored five goals as the Glasgow giants won the SPFL Premiership for the third season running - losing just one game in the process.

However, he was disappointed not to help Celtic qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League or win the League Cup or Scottish Cup.

Van Dijk said: "I enjoyed my first season in Scotland and settled a lot quicker than I thought that I would.

"I have a lot I still want to achieve as a player at Celtic. We were disappointed with how we did in the Champions League and in the cups.

"We want to fare far better next year and will do everything that we can to try and make it happen.

"Beating Shakhter Karagandy at home to get into the Champions League group stages was a fantastic experience for me and all of the boys.

"I hardly played in that game. But it was still an amazing night for the players, the club and all of the fans. It was incredible.

"It was so disappointing then only to win one game against Ajax in the group stages after that. We want to do better next season."

He added: "I have been very happy with how things have gone for me this season. I didn't get into the Holland squad, but I don't think I am good enough for that yet. If I was good enough then I would have been in the squad.

"I don't worry about what happens elsewhere, I just want to work hard and do well for myself and for Celtic."
