Date: Wednesday, April 10, 2008.

Competition: Uefa Cup.

Venue: Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Attendance: 31,155.

Result: Sporting Lisbon 0 Rangers 2.

WALTER SMITH'S side went into the second leg of their quarter-final clash with a huge task on their hands after a goalless draw at Ibrox, but produced one of their finest performances of his second spell in charge to progress to the last four.

Striker Jean-Claude Darcheville put the Gers ahead on the hour mark, but they had to hold off a strong Sporting attack as the hosts hit the post and threatened through Vukcevic and Veloso.

The night will be remembered for Steven Whittaker's superb solo effort late on as, with the Light Blue legions undoubtedly urging him to pass, he weaved through the Portuguese defence and finished coolly to put Smith's side in the last four.

Game: Aberdeen v Rangers.

Date: Sunday, October 25, 1987.

Competition: League Cup final.

Venue: Hampden.

Attendance: 71,961.

Result: Aberdeen 3 Rangers 3 (Rangers won on penalty kicks).

A GAME that is remembered by a goal and a final that will go down as one of the best in Scottish football history.

Of the six goals that were scored in front of a huge Hampden crowd, Davie Cooper's free-kick will live longest in the memory.

It was another flash of genius from the Ibrox legend but only one moment to savour for the Light Blue legions.

Despite Ian Durrant putting Graeme Souness' side ahead, it took a late Robert Fleck strike to rescue Rangers as the League Cup was decided on penalties for the first time.

Peter Nicholas was the Dons villain as his miss proved decisive and Durrant won the cup for the Gers.

Game: Rangers v Celtic.

Date: Saturday, May 29, 1999.

Competition: Scottish Cup final.

Venue: Hampden.

Attendance: 52,670.

Result: Rangers 1 Celtic 0.

DICK ADVOCAAT had already lifted two pieces of silverware after he led Rangers to the Coca-Cola Cup and Premier League title, and the Little General took his side to a

newly-revamped and refurbished Hampden determined to rub salt in Celtic's wounds.

It was to prove one of the finest days in his Ibrox managerial career, the Gers completing another domestic clean sweep with Scottish Cup success.

Rod Wallace got the only goal of the game just after the break, finishing well from close range after the ball broke to him in the box.

Rangers had lost a string of key names, including Goram, Gough, Laudrup and McCoist, the previous summer, but ended the campaign as Treble kings.

Game: Rangers v Aberdeen.

Date: Saturday, May 6, 1978.

Competition: Scottish Cup final.

Venue: Hampden.

Attendance: 61,563.

Result: Rangers 2 Aberdeen 1.

THE day that Jock Wallace wrote his name in the history books as he became the only man to lead Rangers to two domestic Trebles.

Big Jock would step down as boss just a couple of weeks later and did so having masterminded another season of dominance for the Gers, who wrapped up the clean sweep with victory over Aberdeen.

New Ibrox stars Davie Cooper and Gordon Smith had played a key part in the first two legs of the Treble but it was Barca Bears Alex MacDonald and now SportTimes columnist Derek Johnstone who were the heroes at Hampden.

Steve Ritchie pulled one back for the Dons late on after a mistake by Peter McCloy, but it was to be Rangers', and Wallace's, day once again.

game: Rangers v Parma.

Date: Wednesday, August 11, 1999.

Competition: Champions League third qualifying round.

Venue: Ibrox.

Attendance: 49,263.

Result: Rangers 2 Parma 0.

One of the most famous European results of the Dick Advocaat era, this stunning success over Parma all but secured a place in the Champions League group stages for Rangers.

The Italians arrived at Ibrox boasting talents such as Buffon, Cannavaro, Thuram and Di Vaio, but were outshone as goals from Tony Vidmar and Claudio Reyna clinched a memorable success for the Gers, who lost the second leg 1-0.

In a season of domestic dominance as they clinched the SPL title by 21 points, this Euro triumph ranked as one of the best performances of the campaign by Advocaat's side.
