FORMER Rangers star Alex Rae is confident the Ibrox squad has the quality to claim the Championship title.

After a week at their Murray Park base, boss Ally McCoist has taken his players to Sutherland to continue their build-up for the new season.

The Light Blues play Buckie Thistle tomorrow and will also take on Brora Rangers before jetting out for a four game tour of North America.

New arrivals Kenny Miller, Kris Boyd and Darren McGregor have all made the trip north but Jon Daly, David Templeton, Bilel Mohsni and Arnold Peralta all miss out.

McCoist could yet bolster his ranks even more before the competitive action gets underway and the champions kick-off their campaign at home to title rivals Hearts.

But Rae reckons there is already enough quality in McCoist's pool to claim the crown after another successful summer of shopping for the Gers boss.

He told SportTimes: "At that level, Boydy and Kenny will be prolific, I have no doubt about that.

"I saw Boydy a couple of times last season and he was terrific for Kilmarnock. He is just an out-and-out goal scorer.

"He is still only 30 and has another few years left him to score a lot of goals for Rangers.

"Kenny will still have it as well. His experience will be vital and I am sure he will still be as mobile as ever.

"Even before they signed those two, I thought Rangers would win the title this season.

"When you consider they still have Daly, Shiels, Templeton, there is nobody in the league that can touch them going forward.

"In the middle of the park, Black, Law and Macleod are all competing and are good players.

"At the back, I think McGregor is a terrific addition, he will be a really good player if he stays injury free.

"When you name those guys and look at it, that squad of players should get through that division relatively comfortably."
