LEWIS MACLEOD is pleased with his progress as he continues on the road to recovery this summer.

The Rangers midfielder missed several months of the League One campaign with a viral infection, leaving boss Ally McCoist and the Light Blue legions fearing for his immediate future.

He returned to action in a bounce game against Fulham last week, scoring in a 4-2 win over the Cottagers at Murray Park.

But it was to prove a night to forget for the champions as they crashed to an embarrassing defeat to Ventura County Fusion in midweek.

But Macleod has taken plenty of personal positives as he gears up for the meeting with Sacramento Republic tonight.

"It has been a good week," he told rangers.co.uk "The main worry was that I might feel the same as I did before but I'm a lot better.

"I'm feeling good and that's the main thing so hopefully that's the last of it now and I can kick on.

"The Fulham match was my first one for almost six months and to follow up with another 45 minutes in Ventura was good for me.

"It will take me a wee bit of time to get back into the swing of things again and to get my touch back.

"But I'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks and hopefully come the start of the season I'll be as fit as I can be.

"We're looking forward to the game against Sacramento now and I'm feeling good so hopefully I can play there.

"I hurt myself, but I think it was down to the surface as much as anything and I'm a lot better than I was.

"The game itself was disappointing, but the main reason we are over here is to get fitness.

"We came out of the match against Ventura relatively unscathed and the training sessions have been good so the trip has been worthwhile so far."
