ALLY McCOIST has declared himself happy with Rangers pre-season as his players returned home following their tour of North America.

The Light Blues won three out of four matches as the Ibrox gaffer looked for signs for his first pick XI.

Rangers first compeitive match of the new season comes a week on Tuesday when they take on Hibernian in the Petrofac Training Cup at Ibrox.

And McCoist is confident his players are in good nick, despite a couple of patchy performances.

He told the club's website: "We're happy with where we are. It's important to mention we've been training a lot alongside the games we've been playing here.

"We've been working in the morning and afternoon so our fitness levels are still improving.

"I still think we've a bit to go before we hopefully hit our peak right at the start of the season.

"At this moment in time, however, we are certainly pleased.

"That's the best part of two weeks we've been away so the boys have earned some time with their families.

"We'll obviously give them that over the weekend and then we'll start again on Monday We've got a closed-doors game early on in the week then we'll head down to Derby.

"It has been a very successful tour and we're happy with how it has gone.

"The most important thing is we are ready to peak at the right time and we're on course for that."
