ALAN ARCHIBALD will make the most of Partick Thistle's top-flight inactivity this weekend as the Premiership campaign kicks off.

While 10 teams begin their season in the next 48 hours, the Jags have to wait until Wednesday after their clash with Celtic was postponed.

Thistle rounded off their pre-season schedule with a 3-1 win over Sunderland in midweek as Christie Elliott, Steven Lawless and Stephen O'Donnell netted.

Archibald will put his squad through their paces today before heading to see Dundee host Killie and Ross County face St Johnstone tomorrow.

He said: "Pre-season has been good. We had a hiccup with the Celtic game being called off.

"We could do with a game this weekend and the boys are a bit frustrated at that.

"But I was happy with Wednesday, everyone got a workout and it gives us a week to go and plan for the Ross County game.

"We are in training today. That is our week now, it started yesterday as we build up to the Ross County game.

"I will catch both games. It is us a chance to see Dundee and Ross County, our two next fixtures, which is good."

Thistle were deserved winners against the Black Cats in midweek.

And Archibald was pleased to shine on the pristine Firhill pitch.

He said: "It was a good exercise and it was great to be back on the Firhill pitch as well.

"We have only had one other match, a closed-door game, here so it was good to get the lads on the pitch and get them all some game time.

"We always look to get a couple of [home] games and we got the same last year with a closed-door game. It is vital that we got some game time on it and the pitch is in magnificent condition."
