DAN SEABORNE has seen some of his closest friends clinch multi-million pound moves so far this summer.

Yesterday, he put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Partick Thistle.

Seaborne played his part in the early stages of the Southampton fairytale, helping them through the English lower tiers and into the Premier League alongside the likes of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.

While his former team-mates went on to star in the top flight and win big-money moves to Liverpool after appearing at the World Cup this summer, Seaborne’s career has taken a different path as injuries have struck.

He has turned out for Charlton, Bournemouth, Yeovil and Coventry in recent seasons and is now embarking on a fresh challenge at Firhill.

Seaborne said: “I played with Lallana and Lambert. I am good friends with them. We had a really good team that Alan Pardew put together and then Nigel Adkins did really well with it. It was a good place to play football.

“We had a really good time as a group. Pardew brought me in and then Adkins took us to the Premier League.

“We didn’t win the league but we were the best team talent-wise and football-wise.

“We didn’t always gel as a team but in training and whenever we played, we knew we were far better than everyone else.

“It was nice knowing you were fitter and stronger than everyone else. That is why we had such a good season that year.

“I still speak to all of them. We had a really close group there which Adkins gelled together.

“We became good friends and went out a lot together and socialised together, played golf.

“There was a good core of us there but everyone has pretty much moved on. Jose Fonte and Jay Rodriguez are the only ones still there that were part of that group.”

Seaborne becomes the third signing of the summer for boss Alan Archibald as he builds his squad for Thistle’s second Premiership campaign.

His contract at Coventry was terminated by mutual consent last week.

But not before he got the low-down from some familiar faces in Steven Pressley’s squad.

He said: “I flew up last week and had a look around the place with the gaffer and we went for a bit of food. It has been on the go for about a week.

“There was quite a bit of activity in this country and other countries.

“I didn’t know  a lot about the place but I came up and fancied it. I think this is a good choice.

“A lot of the lads at Coventry are Scottish so I spoke to them and the manager.

“I spoke to Isaac Osbourne and he had nothing but good things to say about the place so it made the choice easier. I wasn’t just taking a leap of faith which was good.”

Seaborne could get his first taste of Scottish football when Thistle kick off their Premiership campaign at home to Ross County tomorrow night.

And the defender is eager to play his part for Archibald’s side after becoming the first defender to sign on this summer.

He said: “I am pretty versatile. Hopefully I can get in the team and play left-side centre-half.

“That is the position I think I can add to the group the most from.

“I want to do well and take the club to another level. I don’t know a lot about the Premiership.

“But I know there is a split and that is a target for myself, to get into the top six.  It would be a great place to be.”
